Gingivitis: It’s a bacterial sickness that causes inflamation and bleeding of the gums and its caused by leftover food trapped between the teeth and deficient oral hygiene

Symptoms

* No pain

* Red and swollen gums

* Bleeding with brushing

* Bad taste in your mouth or persistent bad breath

* Exposure of the root of the teeth which could loosen and fall out

Periodontitis

This will be present if the gingivitis is not treated, in this phase, the disorder starts to destroy the bone and tissue that hold the teeth

Symptoms

* Same as gingivitis

* Presence of tartar

* Loose and separated teeth

* Pus between the gums and the teeth

* Continuous bad breath

Treatment

The main target for the treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis is controlling the infection. The number and types of the treatment will vary depending on the severity of the illness being either cleanings, medicine or surgery. All types of treatment require the patient to take proper care of the teeth daily even after the treatment has finished, furthermore, the doctor may suggest modification of certain habitual behavior such as smoking  as a way of improving the results of the treatment.

Steps to be taken for their placement.

1.-The first exam is taking one or many radiographies of this zone to prepare the procedure, study models and general tests.

2.-Implant installation, in the same intervention, a temporary tooth is placed that will allow eating and function with regularity immediately. The implant will require some months to be integrated into the maxillary before continuing with the next step.

3.-Placement of the new crown. The last step is the placement of the permanent ceramic piece. The new dental piece will be placed for life. It does not require additional treatment at all.

Besides these positions they can also be found: Underneath a bone and gums or  only under the gums

The maxillofacial surgeon is the specialist in this area and will attend basic problems like third molar surgery, implant placement and also mayor surgery like facial grammatology, harelip and cleft palate and oral oncology, etc. Some of these procedures have to be performed in an operating room.

It is important that the filler, in this case the eugenol zinc oxide is resorbable so there isn’t any problems when the permanent tooth begins eruption, it also needs metal crowning.

Space Maintainer

Device placed when a temporary tooth has been lost with the goal of maintaining the space in  the dental arcade, this to avoid loss of space, dental deviations or over eruptions

Sealants

Plastic material that is normally applied on the chewing surfaces of the posterior teeth  (premolars and molars). This plastic resin is inserted and it adheres

The depressions  and irregularities of these surfaces acting as a barrier, protecting the enamel of the dental plaque and the acids, the tooth must be healthy.

Application of fluoride

Fluoride is a substance that the dentist will apply to the dental pieces to avoid future injuries of tooth decay. Fluoride makes the teeth enamel more resistant , avoiding them to be damaged by bacteria and acids that form once you have eaten and not brushed your teeth.

It is recommended to apply fluoride at the doctor’s office since the child is 1 to 2 years of age and from that point to continue doing it every 4-6 months depending on the risk of decay of each child.

The application of fluoride is a simple procedure which will not cause any bother to children. Its applied during 2-4 minutes, afterwards the child will not be able to eat or drink anything for 30 minutes, so that the fluoride’s action can be intensified.

With all these mentioned, the specialist will determine the problem to be treated, the approximate length of time and the objective we want to reach.

Endodontics

What is a Retreatment?: This consists in having to do the endodontic procedure again to the already treated tooth which has been infected or appears to have pain.

What is a post?: Due to the extirpation of the tooth’s dental nerve that has been treated  the tooth tends to loose irrigation and dehydrates, this causes the tooth to become weak and it may fracture. It is recommended to place a post, metallic or ceramic, therefore giving the tooth new resistance.

The advantage of the digital X-Ray is less dosage of radiation for the patient.

Whitening at home under professional supervision: Molds of the patient’s mouth are taken to obtain transparent guards where the whitening agent will be put for 7 consecutive nights.

Whitening in the clinic: The whole treatment lasts approximately 1 hour with 3 or 4 brief pauses to renovate the whitening product we deposited on the teeth, activating it using a plasma halogen light over the teeth

Made of plastic material (acrylic) and it’s sustained  only with the form and the saliva from the patient. There are others that are sustained by implants but to determine which one is to be used, a prior assessment has to be made.
